The Issue Of Gun Control - 2107 Words

We as a country have been caught up lately in the idea that we need to take away people s guns in order to make people safer. Adolf Hitler once said, â€Å"To conquer a nation, first disarm its citizens (Quotes About).† Do I really need to explain where history seems to be repeating here. Instead of turning it into a possible genocide, there needs to be focus on the mental health of people. What people do not seem to understand is that by trying to control guns, you are just making it easier for those who would mean to do harm to get away with it. This is especially true in states, for example: New York, New Jersey and California, who have really strict gun laws. Politicians have been recently pushing the fact that they want to heavily†¦show more content†¦She says that Clinton was more focused on the gum chewers instead of the thousands that die every year in cities where guns are illegal and to focus more on those issues than the made up diversionary tactics used b y Mrs. Clinton to gain political support. What people like about Clinton is that she does not seem to understand that even though you make guns harder to get for the average Joe, criminals are still going to find ways to get the things they need to commit the crimes they intend to commit. All stricter gun control is going to do is make it harder for somebody to protect themself if they are put in a dangerous situation where they would need to actually defend themselves, unlike Clinton’s situations, like a burglary or a mugging. Although it seems that many people are encouraged to having stricter gun laws because of tragedies like Columbine or the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, making it seem that gun control should be stronger, which this is not true. In the case of Columbine for example, the gunman who orchestrated the event, â€Å"violated close to 20 firearm laws in amassing their cache of weapons† (Gun Control). These same laws that were violated were put into place in order to prevent tragedies like Columbine from happening.
